The Department of Government Efficiency (D.O.G.E.) saying it will “simplify” the federal government’s credit card program that costs taxpayers almost $40 billion last year.
D.O.G.E.:
“The US government currently has ~4.6M active credit cards/accounts, which processed ~90M unique transactions for ~$40B of spend in FY24.”
“D.O.G.E is working w/ the agencies to simplify the program and reduce admin costs”
D.O.G.E. said it “will report back in 1 week” with a plan
The General Services Administration, which runs the program, notes that government contractors may also be eligible for credit cards.
The spending data highlighted by D.O.G.E. is publicly available on the G.S.A. website.
Over the years, government watchdogs have found everything from adult entertainment to LEGO toys to lavish multi-course meals being charged to taxpayers.
According to the D.O.D. (Department of Defense) inspector general report released last month, $500,000 in charges were made at nightclubs, major sporting events – including Super Bowl- Casinos, bars and mobile app stores.
Another 3.9 million transactions, totaling $1.2 billion, were not even reviewed by supervisors, the IG found.
Over the years Government watchdogs have found purchases including LEGO toys to Adult Entertainment charged to the cards paid for by American taxpayers.
