WORLD PEACE IS NOT REALISTIC “But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.” (Isa. 57:20-21) In Leviticus chapter 26, God promises conditional peace to Israel: “If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them . . . I will give peace in the land . . .” (Lev. 26:3-6) They didn’t meet the conditions, so they didn’t enjoy a lasting peace. Nor has anyone else met the conditions, yet men keep pushing for world peace as though it were an achievable goal. It’s not an achievable goal, and every minute spent striving for it amounts to wasted time. It is certainly noble to work toward good objectives, but not when such objectives are impossible to reach. The Bible declares that world peace is not going to come until Jesus the Prince of Peace comes, so there’s no point in trying to establish it now. But even if the Bible said nothing about the subject, the record of history trumpets the message just as loudly. When has the world enjoyed a lasting peace? Can you name even a single century in world history when no one went to war with anyone else and everyone voluntarily got along with their fellow man and maintained peace? Since Cain murdered his brother Abel this old world has gone through sixty centuries. Can you show me just one where people lived in peace and harmony? No, you can’t because there isn’t one. But people never learn. World War I was originally called “the great war” and “the war to end all wars” because they thought there would never be another one. That was about 100 years ago, and we’ve had wars and rumors of wars since then. Yet we have media people and politicians seriously discussing world peace. They may as well go fishing or play some golf because world peace just isn’t going to happen. After all, if it did happen, then God would be a liar. He plainly stated that man cannot have peace (Isa. 57:21; Rom. 3:17-18; Lev. 26:3-17; etc.), so men are pushing for the impossible. World peace is coming, but not by man’s efforts. Luke 2:14 declares that men will not have peace until there is “glory to God in the highest,” and I seriously doubt that God’s glory is being discussed anywhere on the world stage. So what’s coming? Bigger and bloodier world wars because men never learn from history. Or as Solomon penned it some 3,000 years ago: “There is no remembrance of former things.”
