16. And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?17. When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.Mark 2:16-17. Jesus has called Levi a tax collector into His service. Many believe that this dinner was a party for his friends because he left his job as a tax collector. The scribes and Pharisees come to Jesus's disciples asking how come He ate with sinners. The word Pharisee means, separated ones. Having the opinion, they were holy, and everyone else but them were separated from the love of God. Jesus is the only doctor for the soul. Jesus needed to be among those who needed salvation. It is true today that those who do not see the need for Jesus will suffer a spiritual death. And shall be denied eternal life in heaven. Jesus is the perfect cure for sin. He is always available. His diagnosis is always right. His cure is complete and needs no other treatment. Jesus even paid the cost of the cure with His life. Amen.
