Isaiah 45:9
“Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?”
The Bible gives several names for God.
One of the most profound names of God is “Maker”. It is a name for God that we almost forget about. I think in all my years of being a Christian I have never heard a sermon on God our Maker. The name Maker speaks of a distinct work of God in one particular area, the making of each human being. Yes, He is the Creator of Heaven and Earth, but the name Maker is reserved to the making of mankind. The word means to form, fashion, or frame. It is God our Maker who forms, fashions, and frames every human male or female and with many characteristics. For man to deny such a truth, would be to strive with his Maker. And our verse says, “Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker!” Does the clay say to the potter make me this way? No, the clay is nothing more than a lump of earth, until the potter starts fashioning. It is the potter that envisions and forms what he wants and sees. It is God who makes mankind according to His wisdom and purpose.
May we all with joy sing with David, “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”
