The places that my school took field trips to weren't really all that fun.

I remember a field trip to the Gruman Plant in Bethpage Long Island, where they were building the Lunar Excursion Module (LEM) that was going to the moon with the first man-on-the-moon landing in 1969. I didn't realize at the time the magnitude of the piece of history we were all seeing being built.
