God Knows Our Heart
1 John 3:19-21
“And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.”
We are told here that “God… knoweth all things.” Therefore, God knows my heart.
For some this truth is comforting and for others it is convicting. God knows the intent of our heart, the motivation of our heart.
He knows when we try but fail, and the motivation behind that attempt to do better. He knows the depth of how hard we try to do better. Because He knows our heart, God knows the true direction of our life whether we are moving closer to Him or further away. He knows the sin within our heart that can so easily beset us. He knows the pride and arrogance that keeps us from coming to Him to get the help we need. We can easily misjudge others because we do not know their heart, but with God this can never happen. God will never misjudge our heart.
“God… knoweth all things.”
In our heart, along with God, we either find assurance or condemnation. Of these two what do you find in your heart?
