Tad got the biggest piece of meat etc. Afterall, he worked hard long hours to provide a roof over our heads and food for our belly's. He was never ever heavy handed or pushy, that was my Moms forte. But we did respect him and his role as head of the household. When it was all said and done Dad showed he also respected us and our uniqueness and abilities. The best date I ever had was with my Dad when I was awarded the outstanding Assembly Member (Student Governments equal to 'homecoming Queen'

and at age 32 I could attend the banquet with a date and I was honored to have my Dad as my escort. I think it was also one of his proudest moments as well. I found something out by complete strangers not that king before he died that he had bragged on me and they said it was clear that he thought the world of me. These people were holding a yard sale abd he stopped by earlier in the day and was looking for something I might like. And hours later I happened to stop by, not knowing that he had been there and I found a coffee cup that said "World's Greatest Daddy" and I was overjoyed to get it for my Dad. When I started to tell them about him they asked if I had attended Fire School, Guarded the Pope and made a 4.0 in college and went to the border to guard the border...and a few other things and I was dumbfounded and speechless. I just stood there with my mouth open in shock. Then the Lady explained that my Dad had been there hours earlier and was bragging about me. She said that what he said and how he obviously loved me brought her to tears because she had not had that good of a relationship with her own Dad and really only made ammends just before she lost him. She said that she had wished when my Dad left her yard sale that she could tell me how lucky I was, and I told her I knew I was lucky to have him. He was a WWII Veteran, went in when he was 16 and was just a kid, but came back a Man and a hero in my book. He never talked much about it, until near the end when he wanted me and my Son to know his stories. Until he died and during his funeral, he never really got the recognition he deserved either. I respected him more than any Man I've ever met. But it was not to that degree when I was a Kid. I respected him as my Dad and there was a distance between him and us Kids but after I grew up and moved on with my life then we became Friends. The world has been a dimmer place since he left... In 2 days it will be 13 years since he left us. And not a day goes by that I don't think of him in some way.
