It looks like these are the Russian speaking areas that Russia will probably want to annex in negotiations. Crimea will for sure stay with Russia. The Eastern Russian speaking provinces will likely remain with Ukraine with assurances of safe treatment. Russia will also want assurances the Ukraine will not become part of NATo. Let’s see what develops. The war must be ended.
