“We Are Labourers Together”
1 Corinthians 3:9-10
“For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.”
The personal pronoun “we” in our text refers to all of us who are saved and in the family of God. It can definitely apply to me and all those that are a member of the local church in which I am a member, but the extension of our labors go much further than that.
The foundation of our efforts is Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 3:11). All that are truly saved labor together in the building of God’s church.
Liken a man’s heart to soil. One may till that soil, another may plant the seed of God’s Word in that soil, then another may water that seed, then another may do a little cultivation, then another comes by and harvests the fruit of a soul saved. In the process from tillage to harvest no one person gets the credit, because it is God that gave the increase.
(1 Corinthians 3:7). Think of all that labor that was together. Think of a crew who builds a house. You have excavation crew, and masons, and framers, and painters, and flooring personnel, and electricians, and plumbers, and roofers. They all work together for one cause- building the house.
Oh, that each in the family of God would “take heed” of how we build, then we would be much better “labourers together” for God’s glory!
