In 2010, USAID managed $4.4 billion for Haiti—under none other than Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The result? Haiti received almost nothing, while the Clinton Foundation raked in millions. And let’s not forget the absolute absurdity of USAID’s spending priorities: $20 million for a Sesame Street in Iraq $56 million to boost tourism in Egypt & Tunisia $40 million to build schools in Jordan $11 million to tell Vietnam to stop burning trash $27 million for reintegration gift bags for deported Central Americans Oh, and if that wasn’t insulting enough, a Treasury IG report found that USAID somehow managed to issue 309,601 payments totaling $423 million in COVID stimulus checks—to foreign nationals. Because apparently, our tax dollars aren’t just for our welfare state—they’re for everyone’s welfare state. It’s no wonder the worst people in American politics are losing their minds over DOGE taking a hard look at USAID.Weird indeed. But not unexpected.
