Guilty & Forgiven
Romans 3:19-20
“Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
When a driver is driving 60 mph in a 35 mph zone and meets a highway patrolman there is a sinking feeling that immediately takes place in the heart. Why does this anxious, trembling sensation take place in the heart? Because the driver saw the sign where the law says 35 mph. The driver is guilty and knows it!
The law of God stops the mouth of excuses and proclaims to the sinner, GUILTY! The sinner’s only hope to be justified is to look unto Jesus Christ to be forgiven! Jesus Christ satisfied the demands of the law and paid the price for our sins by His death on the cross. Therefore He alone holds the right to make the guilty sinner justified before the law!
Romans 3:24-26
“Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.”
“By God's Word at last my sin I learned.
Then I trembled at the Law I'd spurned,
Till my guilty soul imploring turned to Calvary.
Mercy there was great and grace was free,
Pardon there was multiplied to me,
There my burdened soul found liberty,
At Calvary.”
