I woke up in the middle of the night and unable to sleep I started watching the Trump/Netanyahu press conference.Just like me, the world is in shock this morning at the prospect of Mar-a-Gaza. It’s not what we expected and certainly not what we had hoped.Is it true that Gaza as it stands is totally unliveable? Yes. Is it true that for over 70 years the two state solution has not worked? Yes. Is it true that doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome is the definition of madness? Yes. But is the US ‘owning’ Gaza the solution to the endless conflicts in the region? 🥴 I don’t know, but I can imagine that it’s NOT what the arab world wanted to see happen.One thing is for sure, Israel’s goal was to own Gaza themselves, NOT for the US to control it, so unless the blackpillers are right and Trump is just another puppet of Israel (social media is full of such accusations this morning), the outcome is not exactly what Netanyahu had set his eyes on, but it should be enough to appease him. From a merely pragmatic perspective, the Gazan people currently have nowhere to live and will need a safe place to settle, so it makes sense to start negotiating options for them in neighbouring countries, but it will be hard to convince them to leave their beloved land for which they have already shed so much blood. It doesn’t seem fair to me that they should, but if I were a Palestinian mother with children I would seek to go wherever I know I’m going to be able to raise my kids in peace without fearing for their lives.I honestly don’t know what to say, perhaps this is the beginning of a movie that might come with surprising twists along the way. This could still go in many unexpected directions. I continue to believe that Trump is not Israel’s puppet despite the optics, but unfortunately I could be wrong.https://t.me/LauraAbolichannel
