Denying The Power2 Timothy 3:5“Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”Most often this verse and the four that preceded are strictly applied to the church as a whole. But how well it and they need to be read and applied to us individually. Two questions we need to ask ourself are; does my life have a form of godliness and am I denying the power thereof? If formalism in a church is a big hindrance to that church experiencing revival, what does formalism in the life of the individual make him or her? Would not that be hypocrisy? The word form in our verse means to have a semblance of or appearance of. In the context of the verse the word is speaking of one having the semblance or appearance of godliness but denying the power of the real thing. But one cannot make himself or herself godly. True godliness is the work of God, by faith, in the heart of the individual.2 Corinthians 5:17 says,“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”There is a power within every born again child of God that makes a new creation out of the old. Romans 1:16 says,“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”The Gospel of Christ is the power of God unto salvation, unto the changed life, unto a life that is real Christianity and not just a mere semblance or form of what is real.Is your life a form of Christianity? Are you denying the power thereof?Just something for us all to think about!
