Blessings Among TragedyIsaiah 6:1“In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.”Isaiah’s vision of the Lord was during the tragedy of the death of king Uzziah. Uzziah started out as a good king. Judah prospered under his leadership, and he was liked by the people. But like many who have a season of life in which they prosper, pride can get a hold on their heart. King Uzziah went into the temple and attempted to burn incense. This was not for him to do. The priests sought to remove him, he became angry, and God struck him with leprosy. He died in his leprosy and the people greatly mourned. What could have been had not Uzziah been lifted up in his pride?Oh the tragedy of pride! The consequences of sin always have a great ripple effect on so many! But among the tragedy, the goodness of God came. Isaiah had a vision of God, received his commission from God to be a prophet of the LORD, and God gave him a word for His people. Isaiah’s vision gave him a renewed view of the holiness of God and a realization of his own sinfulness. As a result, Isaiah’s prophecy restored spiritual order and brought hope to the people of God.
