The Origin And Strength Of The Term "Christian"
Acts 11:26
“And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.”
This verse has always captured my attention. It tells us that the early church disciples of Christ were the first to be called Christians. It is noted that the church did not come up with the term Christian, but rather they were called Christians. It seems to me that those outside the church looked at the way these disciples lived and said, “They are like Christ in their living, they are Christian.” They were the real deal! Their life, their manner of living, their actions and reactions, their mannerisms, the way they treated one another and the way they treated others, was just like Christ. No one had to ask them, “Are you a Christian?” That truth was the obvious!
What does it mean to you to be called a Christian?
What does it mean when you say, “I am a Christian?”
Here is a question for all our Baptist readers; “What is more important for you to be called, a Baptist or a Christian?”
Do the neighbors around your church identify you all as Christians?
“And the disciples were called Christians…”
How does that statement relate to who you really are?
