THE WORK OF RESTORATION
Galatians 6:1
“Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.”
When is the last time you heard of someone you know being overtaken by sin?
Maybe it was someone you used to go to church with.
Did you or anyone within the church make an effort to “restore such a one”?
This is what our verse is teaching us.
Yes, there are cautions to consider that one must take when undertaking the process of restoring the one overtaken. Any and all attempts are to be done “in the spirit of meekness” (gentle humility). We are to consider our own-self, lest we also be tempted and be overtaken ourselves.
But, the question I am pondering this morning is, when is the last time we actually saw someone who was overtaken by a sin restored back into the fellowship of the church?
We talk about their sin. We talk about their fall. We talk about the effects of their sin. Obviously the one who was overtaken must take personal responsibility and accountability and make things right with God. But, sometimes even after that takes place the one who was overtaken is still not restored. Why?
Could it be that the answer to that question lies within the phrase “ye which are spiritual”? Oh, that the Holy Spirit might work and the church have genuine revival!
