Where You Been Dwelling Lately?Psalms 91:1-2“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”I am not too sure that many Americans, even American Christians, know what it means to dwell. One cannot dwell when you are mentally in a hurry. The word “dwelleth” in our text means to remain, sit, abide. It means once you get to where you want to be you stay there awhile. The Psalmist was looking for a safe place away from the horrors of the world. Read the rest of Psalm 91. That place was within his heart but there was a Presence to be gained. He arrived there by faith. The presence of God became his refuge, his fortress, his shield, his buckler, his salvation.I think we can understand why he wanted to dwell there once he got there.Does your faith in God bring you to such a place, a consciousness of God’s presence?A stanza to an anonymous hymn (some attribute it to a R. Keen), and one of my favorites, comes to my mind here.“The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose, I will not, I will not desert to its foes; That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake, I'll never, no, never, no, never forsake.”
