Matthew 27:3-5 - R e p e n t a n c e
Vs 3 Then Judas, which had b e t r a y e d him, when he saw that he was condemned, r e p e n t e d himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
Vs 4 Saying, I have s i n n e d in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
Vs 5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and h a n g e d himself.
REPENTED: Yes, Judas knew he had sinned.
Judas even R E P E N T E D, b u t he is in hell today.
The r e p e n t a n c e of Judas did n o t lead him to Jesus but to hang himself. So, yes you can r e p e n t and still go to hell.
Judas o n l y had a 'f o r m' of sorrow (repentance) but not true repentance that leads to c h a n g e.
True repentance is more than just k n o w i n g you were wrong.
Biblical Repentance is the knowledge I'm wrong w i t h change. Without change, then you are no different than Judas.
Biblical Repentance is your testimony that is known a f t e r accepting the fact that you are wrong and then your direction in life changes.
This does n o t mean salvation is a p r o c e s s of works.
Biblical repentance is n o t a work of man, but a t e s t i m o n y of a work done in your life by Jesus.
==> 2 Timothy 2:25 -- In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will g i v e them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
IMPORTANT: Repentance is n o t a work, but something 'g i v e n' so that you can 'acknowledge' truth. You can't e a r n salvation, nor can you e a r n repentance through tears, and emotional mood swings.
==> 2 Corinthians 7:10 - For godly sorrow w o r k e t h repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
IMPORTANT: G o d l y sorrow is distinguished from worldly sorrow.
Worldly sorrows are just like the kisses and tears that come from a personality like that of Judas. They are an emotional response to your sinfulness instead of a 'godly sorrow' which is more than just tears and remorse/regrets.
If your life is still going the s a m e old direction (tears, regrets) with no change, then you've reduced repentance to o n l y an acknowledgment of a particular fault you possess against Jesus.
Recognition of a s i n g u l a r fault (betrayal) against the Saviour does not equate to repentance. Judas only repented of his singular action (betrayal) and not what made him covet the 30 pieces of silver.
Now, has God given you the g i f t of repentance or are you still struggling with tears, regrets and remorse over your sin that leads you to a sorrow of the world (2 Corinthians 7:10)?
