Eternal JoyJohn 16:19-22“Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me? Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.”Weep and lament, travail and sorrow, while the world rejoices; what a good way to describe much of what we face in this life. Obviously, the Lord was talking about His death, resurrection, and ascension. The world rejoiced at His death. What a depraved and calloused world we live in.Being omniscient our Lord knew what the disciples wanted to ask Him. If He leaves them, what would they do? To not see Him means they would have to walk by faith.2 Corinthians 5:7“(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)”But, as a woman travails and has sorrow in her pregnancy and child birth, she remembers no more her anguish when her child is born. We will one day forget all our weeping and lamenting, our travail and sorrow. When? At the appearance of Jesus Christ! Our sorrow will be turned into joy!Joy that no man can take!Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
