Because Of HimJohn 7:43 - “So there was a division among the people because of Him.”It seems that everywhere Christ went, and to everything He said, part of the results was a division.In the scene of our text, the division that was taking place was causing people to actively take sides. Some believed in Jesus and supported Him, while others vehemently rejected Him and outwardly opposed Him. Even to the point that they sought ways they might put Him to death. Silence Him!We are reminded that the message of Jesus while bringing comfort, peace, and joy to some, causes a hatred in others because it confronts them with truth. We also see through the meaning of the word “division” in our verse just how strong this division can be. The Greek word for division is where we get our word schism from. This is more than just a simple argument or disagreement. This is a very bitter, volatile, at times hostile division. To some, discussions about Jesus in family or the work place is refreshing and uplifting, but to others those same discussions label the family and workplace as a toxic environment. Not everyone embraces the message of Jesus Christ as a message of love and hope and peace. For some that message becomes a barrier to their lifestyle and ideology.Because of Jesus Christ, today there is still a great division among people.To which side of that divide do you stand?
