While Rodrigo Duterte was President of the Philippines, Rappler touted themselves as being a "bastion of free speech" as well as a "champion of free speech" against the attempts by Duterte to censor them and other Filipino media outlets.
Now, just a few years AFTER Duterte is out of office, it appears that things have "changed" with Rappler.
According to them: "Fact-checking is a rigorous process that demands thorough research and attention to detail. In other words, there’s accountability and transparency for the work we do."
They are now actively promoting censorship over free speech.
BUT, if you dig into their activities prior to, during, and since the Duterte administration you will find out that Rappler isn't the "champion of free speech" that they have claimed to be.
Wouldn't it be interesting to see just how much money they are set to loose over this recent "change" by META where their "fact checking" services will no longer be needed??
