"BENEFITING FROM THE BLESSINGS OF GOD" "A Psalm of David. Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's." (Psalm 103:1-5)David begins this Psalm by urging his soul to bless the Lord and not to forget His benefits. God forgives all our iniquities, heals our diseases, redeems our life from the pit, crowns us with steadfast love and mercy, and satisfies us with good so that our youth is renewed like the eagle's.Behold the lovingkindness of the Lord: He has REDEEMED us from the curse of the law (Galatians 3:13-14). He has CROWNED us. Revelation 1:6 says, "And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen." (The way I see it is kings and priests wear a crown) He SATISFIES us "For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness." (Psalm 107:9)The lovingkindness of the Lord is not something new with Him. Believers in the Old Testament as well as the New experienced His mercy and lovingkindness. Plus, He never needs to be reminded that He is always the Great Giver of the ages. We see that plainly spelled out for us in Psalm 25:6: "Remember, O LORD, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old."Years ago, I read a rather comical story once where a Sunday School teacher asked her students one morning to try and define lovingkindness. One little fella jumped up and said, "Well, if I was hungry and someone gave me a piece of bread that would be kindness. But if they put a little jam on it, that would be lovingkindness." Oh, the Eternal Jam of God's lovingkindness which He daily spreads upon our lives far exceeds anything else and is forever worthy of our praise.Friends, God’s blessings run parallel with our lives. His bounty of blessings for us will never be depleted nor exhausted. They freely flow unbroken and in abundance. When once He begins to bestow His blessings which indeed benefit us, He keeps right on bestowing. And that is because of His lovingkindness He has for us! Therefore, what shall we say to Him in return? How about, "Bless the LORD, O my soul."
