#OTD January 8, 1956:
Missionaries Jim Elliot, Nate Saint, Roger Youderian, Ed McCully, and Pete Fleming were martyred by the Huaorani (then known as Auca) people along the Curaray River in Ecuador. The missionaries had been attempting to bring the gospel to this unreached group. Their story, a testament to faith and sacrifice, gained worldwide attention through Elisabeth Elliot’s book Through Gates of Splendor, published the following year. This account inspired many to engage in mission work, and the Huaorani people themselves eventually embraced Christianity.
