Matthew 7:23. - “And then will I profess unto them, I n e v e r knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”
NEVER: Yes, there are some who are very very religious but never understood or believed the Gospel.
The Gospel is not about you, your church, your religious activities, but about what Jesus did at Calvary.
Notice these words: Confess and Believe _ Vs 9 --
Romans 10:9 - That if thou shalt c o n f e s s with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt b e l i e v e in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Notice these words - Vs 10: "With the heart" - you believe and it's not with your mind (knowledge). When you collect data, it stays in your mind but still can be absent from your heart.
10 For with the h e a r t man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Notice vs 11: When you believe you are not ashamed. Now, are you excited about God or are you ashamed to speak his name? Are you ashamed of carrying a Bible. Are you ashamed of going to church?
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever b e l i e v e t h on him shall not be ashamed.
Now, if you only possess factual knowledge concerning God, then you've never confess Jesus as your Saviour which usually means you are mostly ashamed to be identified as a Bible Believer, Church Going, Shouting/Praising Christians who identifies with God.
You need to examine yourself. If you only get exited, passionate and loud about sports, politics, work and vacations, but you feel God or the Bible is a bore then oh me!
Now, whether you realize it or not, when God and the Bible doesn't excite you but every thing else does, then yes, I should question you definition of confession and what you think it means to 'believe'.
