"PREPARE YOUR WAY BEFORE THE LORD" "So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the LORD his God." (2 Chronicles 27:6)The 9 verses of this short 27th chapter gives us the sum total of king Jotham, the 11th ruler of Judah. We read that he was a young man of 25 when he became king and held that position for 16 years. His daddy was king Uzziah. We learn that Jotham built some cities and such and fought against the king of Ammonites and prevailed.Jotham's reign included his building programs, his victories in war. and his kingdoms income from the children of Ammon. But for me, verse 6 highlights, not only Jotham's public reign, but his personal life as well. For again we hear, "...he prepared his ways before the LORD his God."Three things about King Jotham immediately came to mind as I studied this chapter. Jotham was a FOLLOWER, he was FAITHFUL, and he was a FIGHTER for the LORD his God. (Some of you fellas can develop those 3 points if you want, I did many years ago) I can't help but think here of Paul's charge to a young Timothy, "Fight the good fight of faith," (1 Timothy 6:12a) Folks, make no mistake about it, we are in the fight of our lives today against the enemies of Christ. I personally believe the war will rage hotter and hotter as the day of His return draws nigh. You know as well as I do that this old world has never been for Jesus Christ, and when they find out that we are for Him; they're not going to be for us either. To put it down where the rubber meets the road, the world can't stomach us (1 John 3:13). It hates the ground we walk on.Now I also believe the "fight" is drawing to an end, and if we mean business for the Lord, we're going to have to "earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints." (Jude v.3c) To be sure, we're only going to win our battles the way Jotham did. "He prepared his ways before the LORD his God." Therein was the secret of Jotham's "might."Friends, as each morning dawns and you begin to plan your day, map it out by preparing your way before the LORD your God. You can be sure that the enemies of Christ have a plan for you, and it's not going to a pretty one! Prepare yourself for the FIGHT and don't forget to include the LORD your God. For He is your sure and only MIGHT.
