Guarding Over Your HeartProverbs 4:23“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”The word “keep” here is a military word that means to guard or to watch over. God is admonishing us to guard over our heart with all diligence. In a literal sense God is saying to fence in your heart. It is from our heart that we find our way of living. Coming from God, we settle on the truth that He is speaking of living for Him, His purpose, and His will. As we guard our heart to better position ourselves to live for God, there are a few gateways to our heart that we must watch. The next four verses give us direction.Watch what comes through your ear gate!Proverbs 4:24“Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.”Watch what comes through your eye gate!Proverbs 4:25“Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.”Watch what comes through your mind gate!Proverbs 4:26, 27“Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.”God has a purpose for all of His people. Keeping our heart helps keep us where He needs us to be.
