The Increasing Of ChristJohn 3:30“He must increase, but I must decrease.”I believe one of the greatest lessons that needs to be learned among Christianity today is the increasing of Christ and the decreasing of self. The push today is egocentric, self-sufficient, self-motivation, self-esteem, in short all the life lessons taught seem to be about self. In the study of my Bible I find that self needs to be denied and self needs to die. It is the only way Christ can be exalted in me and through me.Luke 9:23“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”Even in the church there is too much emphasis on self. That should not be a surprise to us, taking in the consideration that so many pastors and preachers draw too much attention to self. John the Baptist knew his earthly ministry was coming to a finish. His personal goal was, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” John even encouraged his disciples to become disciples and followers of Christ. If my preaching does not exalt Christ and admonish people to be followers of Christ, then something is wrong with me the preacher!Paul said in 1 Corinthians 2:2“For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.”May there be a revival in Christianity of the increasing of Christ and the decreasing of self!May this revival begin in the pulpits of our local churches!
