"SWEETER EVERY DAY"
"And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a LIGHT from heaven:" (Acts 9:3)
Many years ago, while I was reading in the Book of Acts, my attention was drawn to the 3 different times we read about the conversion of Saul (Paul) and the "LIGHT" that shone from Heaven that day. There's his actual conversion (Chapter. 9), after his arrest in Jerusalem (Chapter. 22), and before king Agrippa (Chapter. 26).
Looking at Acts 9, it was a typical morning indeed back when mayhem-maker Saul was on that road leading to Damascus with a handful of names of those who loved the Lord Jesus and who were not ashamed to give testimony to that very fact.
It was around lunch time back then when folks like you and I would maybe stop for a bite to eat. But the only hunger pain that Saul felt that High Noon wasn't for the vittles he might feast on and consume; no, it was for the victims he might find and condemn. Without going into more detail, we all know how that memorable meeting turned out that day between our merciful Saviour and that murderous sinner.
Now, the thing I found interesting here in these verses, is how the story of Paul's conversion gets sweeter each time the Holy Spirit inspires Luke to write about it.
In 9:3 we're told, "...and suddenly there shined round about him a LIGHT that shone from Heaven."
In 22:6 we read, "...there shone from heaven a GREAT LIGHT round about me."
Finally in 26:13 we find,"...I saw in the way a LIGHT FROM HEAVEN, ABOVE THE BRIGHTNESS OF THE SUN." (caps mine on these 3 verses)
So, what we have here in these verses is the "LIGHT", a "GREAT LIGHT", and a "LIGHT FROM HEAVEN, ABOVE THE BRIGHTNESS OF THE SUN," What does all this mean? Well, the more I thought about it and then prayed about it, this is what the Lord laid upon my heart.
That night when God saved me, I knew very little about how sweet the Lord Jesus was, is, and was going to be in my life as I walked with Him. Over the years, I can't even begin to list all the things He has so wonderfully taught me and how Christ, the light of the world, has shown brighter and brighter everyday as time sped by.
Whenever I think back to that night of my redemption, I've come to appreciate and understand a little bit more about that "light", the "great light", and He Who is the "light from heaven above the brightness of the sun, " and how every day, Jesus is indeed sweeter than the day before.
Friends, as the years have come and gone, has every day with Jesus been sweeter for you? I trust that it has in the past and will continue when 2025 begins and as we carry on each day God gives us in the work for our Saviour.
