Christ Opens The Heart
The Biblical account of the two disciples from Emmaus is a fascinating one.
In Luke 24:13-32 we read in detail the account of these two disciples meeting along their way the resurrected Lord. When they first met Jesus verse 16 says “But their eyes were holden that they should not know Him.” Then we find from verses 27 and 32 that Jesus opened to them the Scriptures as “He expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself”. Then we read as Jesus sat with them in their house, in verses 30 and 31, “And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.”
The greatest of Bible scholars can explain to us what they believe the Bible says and the greatest of artists can paint a picture of what they believe Jesus looks like. But until the Holy Spirit opens the heart one will only know about Jesus. There is a difference between knowing about Jesus and knowing Jesus.
Romans 8:16
“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:”
1 John 3:24
“…And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.”
Luke 24:32
“And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?”
These two ended up with spiritual heartburn for Jesus. Oh, that our hearts may be opened to know Jesus Christ!
