George Prince (Cloud Appreciation Society Member 47,920) spotted what looked like a rainbow in the round while walking on Mount Pluto, near Lake Tahoe, California, US. But this is no rainbow. It’s a 22-degree halo, caused by sunlight refracting as it shines through a fine mist of tiny glittering ice crystals known as diamond dust. Think of it as a lingering festive spirit, imbuing the frozen forest with a little more winter magic while the northern world awaits spring.
