The Protection of His TimeMatthew 2:1-2, 11“Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him… And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.”The scene before us is not at the manger where Jesus was born. It is in “the house” that these “wise men” brought unto “the young child” Jesus their gifts of “gold, and frankincense, and myrrh”. Note that we read when “they saw the young child with Mary His mother” they “fell down and worshipped Him”. These wise men accomplished what they came to do, and that was to worship the One born King of the Jews. We are then told in Matthew 2:12-14 that the wise men were “warned of God that they should not return unto Herod”. Herod was seeking to destroy the young child and thus ordered the killing of “all children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof from two years old and under…” (Matt. 2:16). Joseph was also warned in a dream to take Mary and Jesus and “flee into Egypt” until God gave word that it was safe. Jesus was divinely protected until His hour came.Note the phrase “his hour” in the following verses.John 7:30 - “Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.”John 8:20 - “These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.”John 13:1 - “Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.”Jesus Christ was born to die, but He did not die until “His hour” came!Galatians 4:4-5 -- “But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.”Christmas time is much more than just about His birth!Oh, He is worthy!!
