"THIRSTY FOR THE WATER OF LIFE"
"He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water." (John 7:38)
It's been noted that 50% of the human body is composed of water. For little babies, it has been estimated that it can be as high as 75%. Water is vital to human life. We may be able to last anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks without food; but water, now that's a different story altogether. 10 days without water would spell the end for each of us.
In Old Testament days, the Israelites associated water with the Feast of Tabernacles. Years ago, I was studying about when the final day of that feast occurred, the high priest would draw water from the Pool of Siloam and then lead a parade of folks back to the temple where he would pour out the water as a sacrifice to the LORD. That act represented the water which God provided from the rock during their wilderness meanderings as well as the rain that would be needed for the next harvest.
Now when we turn to the New Testament, we see where Christ, on the final day of this feast, proclaimed Himself to be the Source of Living Water saying, "In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink." (John 7:37)
The Lord Jesus still calls out to every man, woman, and child today to come to Him for the satisfying of their thirsty souls; and just as there will be no physical life in our bodies without water, there certainly will be no spiritual life in our souls without Jesus Christ!
Friends, human beings are indeed thirsty creatures. They thirst for a healthy life, riches, pleasures, knowledge, power, fame, and love. But how many truly thirst for God.? Are you drinking from Heaven's Eternal Well or are you still wandering about in a wilderness of thirst?
