The Faith of MaryIn Luke 1 we have recorded for us in the Bible the announcement and conception of the virgin from the Angel Gabriel. When it comes to Mary the mother of Jesus there has been an overemphasis in some circles and an under emphasis in others.Luke 1:28“And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.”Luke 1:34“Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?”Luke 1:37“For with God nothing shall be impossible.”Luke 1:45“And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.”It must have taken great faith on Mary’s part to trust the things said of Gabriel would come to pass. The announcement was made, but Mary thought how could this be, seeing she knew she had never been with a man. The impossible would have to be made possible. But the Scripture says, “Blessed is she that believed…” Mary believed. What I find so sad in these days is those who do not believe. They believe that Jesus existed; they cannot deny this much because of the historical accounts. But virgin born? The Son of God?Fully God and fully man?The miracles performed? The crucifixion and the resurrection? The Son of God is the Saviour of man? These are the truths in which their faith fails them. The real issue with such people is not a lack of faith but the sin within their heart. If Jesus did all these things and He is the Saviour of the world, then that makes them a sinner. And that truth they cannot believe.
