The Blackest Day in The History of Mankind
Well today marks the biggest shopping day in all America- Black Friday.
Why is it called Black Friday? The term is said to originate through a group of police officers in Philadelphia during the 1950s to 1960s as they described the rowdy tourists and chaos that ensued the day after Thanksgiving.
I’m not sure what caused the rowdiness and chaos back then, but I would say in some ways in 2024 that part has not changed 😳. But, let me tell you about the darkest day and spiritually speaking, the blackest day ever in the history of the world. The scene is outside Jerusalem on a hill called Golgotha. There the Son of God nailed to a cross, bearing the weight and penalty of the sin of all humanity, was crucified.
Mark 15:33-34 says,
“And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”
It was the darkest and blackest day in world history. The innocent (Jesus Christ) died for the guilty (you and me). That day “the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not” (John 1:5).
John 3:16-17
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
Today no one has to live in spiritual darkness unless they choose to. The Light of the World, Jesus Christ, came and died and rose again the third day.
1 John 2:8
“Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.” Amen!
