Unthankful2 Timothy 3:1-2“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy…”There are eleven more characteristics given in this list in the following verses. Each of them pointing out in their own way of how perilous these last days before the Second Coming of Christ are like. But, today I want us to think about just one. Unthankful. In the last days, prior to Jesus coming again, people will be unthankful. We have definitely arrived at this place in America. I would say we have been here for a while. As a nation we are unthankful. I personally know some adults that I have never once, not one time, ever heard them say “thank you”.Unthankful is defined in Webster’s 1828 dictionary- Not thankful; ungrateful; not making acknowledgments for good received.Most unthankful people also feel like that are entitled, meaning they feel that they are inherently deserving of some special treatment just because of who they are. Therefore they do not have to say thank you. For the record I think Christians should be kind to all people, even to those who are unthankful. I am not going to stop doing something good to people just because they cannot or will not say, “thank you”. I would hope that the good any Christian attempts to do is not done to get a thank you in return.The word unthankful is used one other time in the Bible. Jesus was preaching to the disciples and taught them and us the following in Luke 6:35“But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.”Do you find it surprising that God is kind to the unthankful?Shouldn’t His people do the same?Why do you think some people find it hard to show gratitude?
