Beware Of A Hardened Heart
Hebrews 3:7-9
“Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.”
The human writer of Hebrews (God is the Divine Author), is referring back to the Exodus of the children of Israel from Egypt. You would think that people who had been set free from the Egyptian bondage would have been grateful to God. But it seems all they did was murmur and complain. Their hearts were hardened. Equally, if anyone ought to be filled with joy it ought to be those who are saved by the grace of God, those set free from the bondage of sin. But often instead of thanksgiving God gets nothing but murmuring and complaining. Because of their hardened heart God did not allow many of them to enter into His rest (Promised Land).
Hebrews 3:10-11
“Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)”
As this text encourages me to do so, let me exhort you to be careful “lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin” (Hebrews 3:12).
Today, if you can hear the voice of God “harden not your hearts” (Hebrews 3:15).
