"FEAR THE LORD AND DEPART FROM EVIL"
"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil." (Proverbs 3:5-7)
One of our greatest temptations is to trust ourselves. We've all heard that saying, "If you want it done right, do it yourself." My Dad was a very meticulous man, and I heard him say that plenty of times growing up. We look to our own experiences, our own abilities, our intellect, when it is not even comparable with the infinite wisdom of God. Is it because we don't think God will answer us? Is it because we think He will not answer in a way that will please us? Why can't we just simply trust Him to answer us in a way that is ultimately best for us?
Now folks, let's lay it on the line here. We either trust what the Scriptures declare the LORD to be, or we decide to make our own decisions and be our own lord. If we love Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, then we should trust Him with everything as well.
The LORD carefully and lovingly plans all our ways. Have you seen His hand at work in your life? Do you sense anew the cleansing mercy He showers on us each morning? How about the richness of His grace in our lives which He clothes our souls with?
When we trod that trail that He directs, those old curvy and crooked paths become straight, and life becomes a wonderful walk with our Lord and Saviour. His Life touches our life, and in the process, transforms our whole way of thinking.
Friends, to be wise in our own eyes is to deceive our self. It is a refusal to acknowledge our frailty and faulty condition. Oh, how we desperately need hearken unto the LORD for guidance and discernment. If we think we can do it on our own, we have no fear of a just God, and no desire to depart from evil.
