It's pretty obvious Trump knew the firestorm that would go off at the Gaetz announcement. I think he also knew he wouldn't have the votes for him to be confirmed. But, honey badger doesn't care. He let them have their moment, and flushed out the RINOS so we would know who they are. Trump is all about loyalty. Gaetz will be fearless.
