Pleasing God2 Timothy 2:3, 4 - “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.”In this passage the Christian life is compared to that of a chosen soldier. The Christian did not enlist, he or she was chosen by God.Kind of makes one want to sing the children’s song “I’m In The Lord’s Army”. 😊The Christian soldier, like any soldier, may have to “endure hardness”. Because one is a Christian they may have to undergo hardship. This goes along with 1 Peter 4:16: “Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.”The Christian soldier must beware that he or she does not allow themself to get entangled with the affairs of this life. This very thing is what may have happened to a “fellowlabourer” of Paul’s named Demas (Philemon 24; 2 Timothy 4:10).The goal of the Christian soldier is to please God.1 Thessalonians 4:1 - “Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.”Pleasing God should be the #1 goal of the Christian. What do you allow to guide your life that you may please Him who has chosen you to be a soldier of Jesus Christ?
