Love Not The World
1 John 2:15-17
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”
A sad sight is watching one who makes claim to be a Christian walk the way of the world.
I think it was Vance Havner who said, “the term ‘worldly Christian’ is an oxymoron.”
In our text there is a contrast given of two ways;
(1) loving the world and the things that are in the world
(2) he that doeth the will of the Lord.
I believe that every Christian usually comes to this crossroad in their life. They can go the way of the world or they can choose to do the will of God. Of those two ways, which of the two would you say best describes the choices you have made in life?
Which of the two ways best describes how you present yourself?
Which of the two ways best describes your likes and dislikes in this world?
Which of the two ways best describes what you love versus what you detest?
The text says, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world…” At the end of your life, with all the things you have done in and with your life laying in your hand, what will pass away and what will abide forever?
