God Likes To Show Himself Strong2 Chronicles 16:9“For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.”This verse is spoken by Hanani the seer and is a word of praise for the LORD, but a word of rebuke to Asa king of Judah. Asa had made a league with the king of Syria to fight in a war and divert the king of Israel from building Ramah. It was foolish for Asa to do this thing. There are a couple of things we see here that show Asa’s foolishness but the one that stands out the most is the fact that he made a league with an enemy of God to get what he wanted.First, it is never right or good for the people of God to make a league with any enemy of God.Second, God doesn’t need any help from us or anyone else to correct someone who may be doing wrong. If the king of Israel was wrong for attempting to build Ramah, then Asa should have let God handle it. This is why we read in Deuteronomy 32:35“To me belongeth vengeance and recompence…” and in Romans 12:19“Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”When it is needed, God likes to and has all power to show Himself strong on our behalf. We just need to, by faith, trust Him in the process. He is just and righteous in all His doings. Taking matters into our own hands will usually make us look very foolish.
