THE CONTROVERSIAL PREACHER A controversial preacher is usually nothing more than a preacher who preaches ALL the counsel of God (Acts 20:27). Most preachers are NOT controversial because they simply IGNORE certain things in the Bible. This flaw should actually make THEM controversial, but, no, the finger pointing and labeling is always reserved for the preacher of truth rather than the cowardly compromiser. Young man, if you have your sights set on being a faithful preacher of truth, then prepare to be not only controversial, but also misunderstood and falsely accused so often that it becomes a way of life. This is your cross to bear. Either pick it up and bear it with honor or stay out of the ministry. Now, having stated that, we should never SEEK to be controversial. Our aim should always be to preach the word of God from a heart of conviction (Jer. 20:9), not to tickle ears and entertain. Tabloid preaching is unseemly for a true preacher of God, as it belongs on the playground of spiritual toddlers, not in the pulpits of serious preachers. But being considered controversial due to serious Bible conviction and preaching is perfectly normal and has been the sacred heritage of the righteous for thousands of years. It's a badge of honor, and we should wear it with honor, even unto death.
