Departure From The Truth Results In Strange Beliefs1 Timothy 4:1-5 - “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.”Scripture says here that the Holy Spirit “speaketh expressly” or speaks distinctly or with strict clearness that in the latter times some will depart from the faith. This is strong language meaning some will revolt from the truth.We are given the cause of their revolt from the truth; they gave their mind over to “seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils”. The results of their revolt from the truth has made them habitual liars, and what conscience of good and evil they had, is now “seared with a hot iron”. They are left without a way to distinguish between what is right and wrong.Examples of some of their new strange beliefs are given; “forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats which God… created… to be received with thanksgiving”. Note the two words “forbidding” and “commanding”. To them, the world must comply to our ways! Forget tolerance; it is compliance or be canceled!We are indeed living in some strange times, with people believing and practicing some strange ways of living. The sad part for the many who have gone this way, is there was first a departure “from the faith”. Reminds me of Romans 1:21 - “Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.”
