"ON THE ROAD TO RECOGNITION OF THE REDEEMER" "And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.And they talked together of all these things which had happened.And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.But their eyes were holden that they should not know him." (Luke 24:13-16)Think about those two men for a moment and the profitable journey they must have enjoyed that day as they walked along that road to Emmaus. How would you have loved to been strolling along with that pair back then when our risen Lord joined them? For you see, at that very moment, they had as their traveling stranger the Teacher who is the best of Tutors. In Him was hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. What an education in spiritual insight that must have been!In the four Gospels, there were times when we read about our Lord standing before thousands teaching and preaching during His years of ministry here on earth. Yet, He was never too busy to minister to a hungry, yet bewildered pair such as these two.When almost at Emmaus, Jesus and these two men stopped for their evening meal. As Jesus gave thanks and broke the bread to begin the meal, they suddenly recognized who their gentle Companion was. Jesus immediately disappeared from their sight, and such was the mysterious Divine truth, as well the much-denied proof, of His resurrected body (Luke 24:28-31). These two fellas were deeply stirred by His teaching and, without waiting to rest their weary bodies, hurried back to Jerusalem to tell the 11 disciples of their discovery.You know, our Infinite Instructor yearns to walk alongside each of us today and teach and guide us on the sweetest of truths that would surely benefit us as we learn to be more like Him. The Living Word of God eagerly waits to meet with you and me, wherever we're found and on whatever road we are traveling, to expound to each of us the Written Word of God.Friends, as the Lord Jesus is teaching us day after day about Himself when we study His Word, we too will surely testify the same way those two did as they strolled along with the risen Saviour that long ago day which is found in verse 32, "... Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?"
