Good And EvilMatthew 13:37-40“He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.”Some people want to imagine that there is no such thing as evil, bad people, or sin and sinners. When interpreting the parable of the tares among the wheat Jesus is teaching us of the existence of both good and evil in our world. He teaches both good and evil will exist together until the end. This destroys the imaginative deception that there is no such thing as evil.In this passage Jesus speaks of an enemy and He identified that enemy as “the devil”. Jesus is in no way telling Christians to try to coexist in harmony with that evil but just simply reminding us that good and evil will be until the end. But, He reminds us that in the end we can rest assured that there will be a separation of the two. In the end the evil ones of this world (the Christ rejectors, deniers, and haters) will be gathered to be cast into a furnace of fire. The existence of a place called hell is a sobering truth. Until that day of separation, Christians are to “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15).Time is fleeting away fast, evil exists, hell is a real place, and the church needs to get busy preaching the Gospel!
