Matthew 11:28 - Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you R E S T.
REST: It happens while you are a l i v e and it comes by following Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. If you are not following him, you are r e s t l e s s.
RIP? It is non-Biblical statement made by many without realizing it contradicts all that is in the Bible.
To "rest in peace" is only when you are a l i v e and not dead.
To make that statement, at a funeral or after a person dies, means you think there is no living soul and that the person is still in the body that is dead.
When you die, you => ' l e a v e ' <= the body.
The body has no r e s t since it will return to dust just as God says in the Bible:
Ecclesiastes 3:20 - All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
The body is said to 's l e e p', which means it is a w a i t i n g the resurrection.
At the resurrection, the body and soul are rejoined.
For the Christian that happens at the Rapture and at that time we receive the Adoption:
Romans 8:23 - "And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, W A I T I N G for the ADOPTION, to wit, the redemption of our BODY".
Notice the A d o p t i o n is future, we are still w a i t i n g for it, and that the adoption is the: Redemption of our b o d y that happens at the resurrection, n o t at salvation.
For the lost person there is no rest since his soul is in hell.
In both situations (saved or lost), the body, before their resurrections are said to be sleeping, n o t resting which is a big big difference.
John 11:11 - These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of SLEEP.
Vs 12 Then said his disciples, Lord, if he S L E E P, he shall do well.
Vs13 Howbeit Jesus spake of his DEATH: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of REST in sleep.
