It Is Imminent!1 Thessalonians 4:16-17“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”When people know you are a preacher they will sometimes ask you questions about certain things and topics of current events. With the recent events of hurricanes and flooding and the fact that news reporters are using descriptive phrases like “Biblical proportions”, “apocalyptic like conditions” and “looks like Armageddon”, I have had conversations with people (conversations they instigated) about the Coming of Jesus Christ. I hear comments like, “People better get ready” and “The signs are all pointing to God coming again”. They ask me questions like, “What does the Bible say about all the crazy weather we are having?” and “Doesn’t the Bible say something about all this being a sign that Jesus is coming again?”I love it when people initiate conversations like this. But what most people, even some who profess to be Christians, do not realize is that there is nothing that has to happen before the rapture of the church takes place. This event, the rapture, that starts the process of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ is imminent!!Yes, people do need to get ready!I believe the news reporters who are throwing out these phrases have no idea that what they are seeing now will seem very small in those coming days.Yes, people do need to get ready and the way to be ready is to be born again! For the true Christian my Scripture text is a comfort. That is why verse 18 reads, “Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” Many people are definitely thinking about God and eternity these days. For me, that is exciting! And for me, the truth that the trumpet could sound any second is extremely exciting!
