Condensation trails stream as far as the eye can see from the turbines of the Horns Rev offshore wind farm in the North Sea near the coast of Denmark. What’s going on down there? As the giant turbines harness energy from the wind, they create a zone of low pressure in the lee of their rotor blades, causing the air flows to expand and cool. When the winds are cold enough and contain enough moisture, the drop in air temperature causes the moisture to condense into long banners of fog. Turns out wind turbines generate more than just electricity.Spotted by ‘Vattenfall’ and suggested by Jim Holt (Member 57,093).
