Romans 2:5 -- But after thy h a r d n e s s and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
THE HEART: Yes, it can harden and become impenitent, why?
ANSWER: P r i d e!
Pride is a powerful force to deal with. Pride will allow for any excuse needed to stay in your sin and to promote your sin as acceptable.
Pride will blind you to the point that no matter what is written (Scriptures) or who preaches the Gospel to you, it will have no effect.
Pharaoh, in Exodus, is a prime e x a m p l e of the hardness of heart. He could 'see' the plagues and the pain it inflicted on himself and his people but he couldn't see the hand of God that sent him the plagues.
Today, man is no different. He sees j u d g m e n t s and prays for God's judgments to be removed but yet they will not bow to the Almighty God of Heaven.
The longer you r e j e c t God the more He will send.
The longer you i g n o r e God the more He will send.
The longer you p r e t e n d you are OK in your sin, the more He wills end.
God's grace is real but with each r e j e c t i o n of God's truth then comes h a r d n e s s until you feel n o t h i n g and then you become satisfied with a life of sinfulness.
