This is what a petrified tree over 225 million years old looks like. These trees are found in the Petrified Forest National Park and extend for more than 150 kilometers. But how did they end up full of crystals? Millions of years ago, the plain was flooded by water from rivers flowing from nearby plateaus. Large amounts of trees felled by the current accumulated on the ground and were covered by volcanic ash. The silica present in the ash, dissolved by groundwater, penetrated the logs and transformed the organic matter into brightly colored quartz crystals. Simply incredible.Credits to the rightful owner
